‘MAY DAY CELEBRATION’ 2018
 
  Along with rest of the world, May Day, 2018 was observed here in St. Joseph’s ATC-RRTC, Umran with a day-long programme under the auspices of St. Joseph’s ATC-RRTC Staff and Workers. The programme started with a community prayer in the community hall. This was followed by varieties of games and sports for both men and women (football, basketball, tug off war, chance games etc.) where all the staff and workers took active participation.

The open gathering held on the occasion was presided over by Fr. James Mani, Director of RRTC, Umran.

While addressing the workers, Fr. James Mani, Director, RRTC saluted the determination of workers for playing an important role in the progress of the institute and the state of Meghalaya as a whole.

The day long programme was ended with a cultural programme with varieties of items such as Khasi-Jaintia Dance, Bihu Dance, Garo Dance etc.
 
 
 
 
 
     
     
 
THE DON BOSCO DAY CELEBRATION
AT
PURDUA ON THE 31ST JANUARY, 2018
 
     
 
 
     
  St. Joseph’s Agricultural Training Centre commonly known as Rural Resource and Training Centre (RRTC), Umran had an innovative way to celebrate the Don Bosco Feast. As an institution that is catering to the welfare of farmers and young people we found it proper to have the Don Bosco feast day celebration in the midst of farmers and young people. Purdua village in Ri Bhoi District was chosen as the centre village where the celebration took place. The entire staff and workers, numbering around 100 people moved in to Purdua village for the ‘Don Bosco Day’ celebration.

The day began with community prayer at 8:00 am in the village prayer hall and followed with the hoisting of the ‘Don Bosco Flag’ by Mr. David Timung the Chief Guest of the programme at 9:00 am. After hoisting of flag the Chief Guest gave a short speech on the life of St. John Bosco to the crowd present in the programme. Around 300 people with men, women and children from Puruda, Khamar, Umshakait, Tomonpoanglong and Umwang villages from Ri Bhoi District of Meghalaya participated in the daylong programme.

It was a great day of joy for the people of the area with lots of fun and entertainment. Various competitions were organized for the people such as Tag-O-War for both men and women; football and basketball finals for both men and women.

At 4:30 pm, community meal was been served for the people present in the daylong programme. Soon after the meal, a short ‘Magic Show’ was been performed by Fr. James Mani which was followed by the distribution of prizes to the winners of Tag-O-War, Football and Basketball respectively.

The daylong programme ended with a cultural night with varieties of items such as Karbi traditional Dance, Khasi dance etc. Short talks on social issues such as measures to prevent School dropouts, Swatch Bharat, Solar Home lighting, MHIS etc. were given.

The people of the area are very appreciative of the work of the Salesians and they hope that the spirit of Don Bosco would continue to reach out to many young people of the Northeast India.

Surbathiang Community Reserve Society
 
 
   
 
 

His Excellency, the Governor of Meghalaya, Shri. R. S. Mooshahary has inaugurated the ‘Surbathiang Community Reserve Society’ at Mawtari-Myrdon Village, P. O. Umsning, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya District in the presence of High Govt. Officials, school children and the local populace from 14 Villages on the 23rd March 2013.

“Surbathiang Community Reserve Society” (SCRS) was formed to pilot the project under the leadership of Rural Resource and Training Centre (RRTC), Umran, Ri Bhoi District of Meghalaya and elected Fr. James Mani, Director of RRTC, as its Founder President, the Ri Bhoi District Collector Shri. Akash Deep as its Chief Patron and Mr. Rijied W. Kharmawphlang as Secretary of the Society. The Society has the strength of 32 Executive Members including Headmen of 14 nos. of Villages, Sirdar of Elaka Myrdon, School Principals, Advocates and Teachers various schools of the area.

The Society was instrumental in the launching of “The Surbathiang Bird Sanctuary”. As such, the Society also organized for the School Children an Exhibition with a theme, “Protection of Birds” etc. in the form of i) Model, ii) Painting and accordingly prizes for the same were awarded to the best participants.

Rural Resource and Training Centre (RRTC), Umran has organized a training programme on ‘Community Leadership’ for its Staff on 23rd & 24th of January, 2013. The training was facilitated by Mr. P. Shyam Sunder, GM, DEBC, RBI, Shillong, Meghalaya. There were 12 staff members attended the training programme.

The training programme was started with the lighting of the Inaugural Lamp by Mr. P. Shyam Sunder, Fr. James Mani, the Director of RRTC, Umran and two (2) members from the participants.

The Inaugural Programme was chaired by Mr. Tarsius Ishorary, the Administrator, RRTC-Umran.

Fr. James Mani welcomed Mr. P. Shyam Sunder for being kind to come to RRTC for imparting knowledge & skills relating to ‘Community Leadership’. Fr. James Mani also gave a brief explanation to the staff about the whole training programme and urged the staff to gain maximum out of it.

Mr. P. Shyam Sunder, while sharing with the participants before the start of the training, thanked Fr. James Mani for his kind hospitality and for giving him an opportunity to interact and share ideas with the staff of RRTC. While speaking in the programme he also mentioned that even we are old or young we should always keep learning so as to uplift the whole community/human race as a whole. In his speech, he also highlighted by saying that the RBI has launched a project to bring every family in the country under the Financial Inclusion.

The topics dealt in the training programme were: Techniques of Communication, Leadership Styles, Ethics and Morality, Emotional Intelligence, Motivation and Assertiveness

At the end of the training programme the Staff were awarded with a ‘Certificate of Participation’ by Mr. P. Shyam Sunder, GM, DEBC, RBI, Shillong, Meghalaya.
